It’s a new year, I have goals, I am eager to draw again and I have a new copy of Photoshop to get my comics back online again! BUT, I need a plan, a plan to get things done. Normally I would come home from work and draw a comic at my drawing board after dinner. But that will prove difficult for me these days. As you may already know, I have a new baby at home and well, baby’s eat up a lot of time (and milk, man that little girl eats a lot of milk). Now, for me that’s not a bad thing. I love my daughter. I love spending plenty of quality time bonding with her. BUT (there’s that BUT again) she now occupies my cartooning time. Ruh Roh Raggy, how is Whiskey Falls (yes I am keeping the name, more on that later) and OH-NO going to get drawn? Well, I just can’t do it at home, that’s all. That big drawing board is gonna have to sit unused for a few years.

LUNCH

I have a giant clipboard (big enough to fit three of my 4×13 comic strips on it. I have a brand new messenger bag that can easily fit paper, pens, ink, rulers and paper in. I also get one hour for lunch and my office is close to both Valley Forge Park (for nicer weather) and the King of Prussia Mall (nice and quiet food court now that the Holiday Madness is over for another year). I could easily grab a picnic or food court table and get my comics, written, penciled and inked. All without subtracting from my quality time with my sweet little daughter.

THE PLAN

As I mentioned, I need a plan. Otherwise I will spend my lunch breaks goofing off, watching trains and Netflix movies and hunting nearby Geocaches. I have lived with ADD as long as I can remember, and I know if I don’t have a written plan to tell me exactly what I need to do, the “shinny object” will win and the comics will lose. So here it is starting next Monday.

MONDAY:                 Layout and letter AT LEAST three strips.

TUESDAY:               Pencil strips.

WEDNESDAY:        Ink.

THURSDAY:            Write.

FRIDAY:                    Free day. Use this day to catch up if fallen behind.

SCANNING:             Work out a day with my wife that I can scan, color and post to the web after work (with promise of diaper duty to make up for the loss of quality time)

So that’s the grand plan. I wrote it down and shared it with the world. Hopefully doing that will allow me to keep my comic alive in twenty twelve.

At the very top of Comics Sherpa’s list of comics is our first webcomic review. I was torn between lumping all of my favorite Sherpa Toons together in one post (which I will likely do when it comes to GoComics) but decided against it. These are the struggling artist just like myself who are just wanting someone to notice their strip. So I decided that each Sherpa comic should have it’s own post and review. Starting with our first review:

0-60 by Ariel Guzman

0-60This comic is the story of a new compact car called M1T3Y that has a mind of it’s own. As you can see above it has a nice soft gray-scale for it’s art. It also does something clever when the cars are thinking or communicating with one another. Instead of the traditional thought balloon, 0-60 has words appear on the windshield.

Not many humans seem to notice that the cars are sentient in this strip including the cars owner Lillie (a girl who is not afraid to change her own oil) and Sterling a dude who was reluctant to accept the little car at first but has grown to like it. Every once in a while though some one will notice that the car has a mind of it’s own.

0-60So, that’s what I like about 0-60 (as I warned in the last post I am not the best review giver). It has nice art in a newspaper style strip, some good car humor and some great characters. So I encourage you to go check out this nice little comic and read through it’s archives. The comic has a start date of July 19th 2010 and continues to update every Monday and Thursday on Comics Sherpa part of Go Comics.

Next Week: 1977 The Comic

Hello Blog ReOH-NO Comicsaders (or those wonderful little bots that leave comments about how wonderful a writer I am on a post that is more or less just a picture and have a link to some weird version of Facebook that for God knows why is in another country and demands me to fill out a form to “protect” my account. For some reason my blog thinks your spam, but hey I have readers who comment, yay!)

To try and encourage myself to write more than once every couple of months for this blog I am going to start a regular Tuesday feature for this site. If you look to your right you will my massive lists of links (unless your reading this on OH-NO, then you will have to click HERE and hen see the list of links.) The largest part of that list is titled Comics I Read. Well every Tuesday I am going to take a comic from that list (in alphabetical order) and tell you why I like reading that particular comic. When I run out of comics, I will start going on about other sites i like and add any new comics as well (I am sure there will be more, I spend almost an hour every day reading them). Now I am terrible with reviews. I will not be telling you anything bad about these comics, if i found fault with them, I don’t think they would be in this list. And you might notice a few comics that no longer update, those are linked to encourage reading the archives (as long as the archive still exists) So tune into this blog or  OH-NO, either one will do next week when we start with the comic 0-60 on Comics Sherpa.
